STRAND SWIM SCHOOL

FAQ
-
WHAT AGE SHOULD MY CHILD START SWIMMING LESSONS?There is never a better time to start than today. We take babies from 4 months of age but have classes that cater for beginners of all ages, including adults.
-
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY CHILD TO LEARN TO SWIM?Every child learns at their own pace and practice and consistency are the keys to learning. If you want your child to learn fast, you need to increase their exposure to water and swimming lessons. Imagine yourself learning a new skill and only having half an hour per week to practice. Holiday program lessons are a great opportunity for fast progression.
-
WHAT CAN I DO TO STOP MY CHILD CRYING IN LESSONS?First determine the reason for the crying, are they hungry? Tired? Cold? These are the easiest fixed, however a common reason for children to cry in lessons is separation anxiety and fear of the unknown. Our teachers are experienced in putting your child at ease and introducing them to the joys of swimming and most children settle after a couple of lessons. You can help by explaining the process to your child before they begin and reassure them that you will be there to collect them after their class is over. During the class, keep watch from a distance where your child is unable to engage with you, this will allow them to focus on the teacher and begin building a relationship of trust. Resist removing them from the lesson as they will learn to associate crying with getting out of the water. If you have any concerns feel free to talk to our friendly staff about alternative options.
-
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS WILL MY CHILD’S TEACHER HAVE?All our teachers are required to hold industry recognised certificates either from Swim Australia or Austswim. They also have a working with children Positive Notice Blue Card and current CPR qualifications.
-
HOW DO I PAY?You can pay at the front counter by cash, credit card or Eftpos. Full term fees are due by week 2 of each Term. If you are unable to make it in to see us you can pay by phone with a Credit Card or make arrangements for a bank transfer.
-
DO YOU OFFER MAKE UP CLASSES FOR MIXED LESSONS?Yes. You are able to arrange 2 make up classes per term unless you can provide a doctors certificate. Times for these classes are subject to availability and while we will do our best to accommodate your requests your preferred time and teacher may not be available.
-
DO YOU CLOSE FOR BAD WEATHER?Only lightning or an imminent cyclone will cause swimming lessons to be canceled. In this case we will make every effort to contact those affected, however in the case of a lightning storm decisions sometimes need to be made quickly and unexpectedly.
